Levels of auxin, which regulate both cell division and cell elongation in plant development, are controlled by synthesis, inactivation, transport, and the use of storage forms.Conversion of the auxin precursor indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) to the active auxin indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) contributes to an array of seedling development events, including cotyledon expansion, root hair elongation, lateral root formation,apical hook formation, and root meristem maintenance.
