Metabolic syndrome is characterized by insulin resistance,visceral obesity,and hypertension as well as a cluster of diabetic atherosclerosis risk factors including disturbed lipid/lipoprotein metabolism,endothelial dysfunction,and elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines.Since apoE/ mouse is a spontaneously atherosclerotic mouse model with the molecular pathogenesis of elevated cholesterol,lipoprotein oxidative modification,endothelial dysfunction,and inflammation which resemble human atherosclerosis and TXA2 may promote the development of atherosclerosis,apoE/ and/or TXAS-/ mice were included in these studies.
