  Our previous studies demonstrated that the invasive Bidens pilosa had negative effects on gametophyte development of Pteris multifida.To further determine the mechanisms of the root exudates of B.pilosa to P.multifida, the changes in antioxidant activity, ultra structure and PCD in gametophytes of P.multifida are analyzed.With the enhanced dose of root exudates of B.pilosa (0%, 12.5%, 25%, 50% and 100%), antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione reductase (GR) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) increased.With time went by, the activities levelled off, which means the system had the defense to the stress of root exudates.
