The planetary boundary layer(PBL)or atmospheric boundary layer refers to the part of the atmosphere that is directly influenced by the Earths surface and responds to surface forces. In this layer the medium of energy, moisture, momentum and pollutant exchange between the surface and the atmosphere. So it is important for air pollutant model and energy flux estimation to derive the planetary boundary layer. In this paper,a method, which uses AIRS atmospheric potential temperature profile product to derive the mixing boundary layer height(MH)is introduced and applied over the Heihe river basin. The method is available under clear and cloudy day for both convective and stable air condition.Re-analysis MH from the data of MERRA and In-situ MH was also calculated from HIWATER radiaosondes data for the validation. The comparation shows that the spatial variation of MH from AIRS is consistent with MERRA MH at the annual scale and the MH from our method has an average 313m RMSE and 0.84 R2 with the station In-situ MH.
