Objective:to investigate the results and evaluate methods of arthroscopic debridement to OA of the knee prior to TKA. Methods 1400 cases with OA of the knee were undergone by arthroscopic debridement from April 1990 to Jan 2003. 660 patients who had complete materials were followed-up by questionnaire. The questionnaire designed by us was included subjective satisfactory,VAS, Tegner score, Lysholm score and WOMAC score. 152 patients completed full questionnaire. The patients included 31 men and 121 women, by mean age 59.2±11.7(45~75) years old, left knee were 62 and right knee were 90, and the mean follow-up period was 7.5±5.1 (2.0~15.8)years. Results VAS (painless is I00 points), Tegner score, Lysholm score and WOMAC score was 36.37±23.79,1.36±1.62, 44.11±22.25, 42.45±20.88 points preoperatively and 69.14±20.69, 2.38±1.91, 71.13±21.18, 19.13±14.40 points postoperatively, respectively. The improvement had significant difference in statistic. The subjective evaluation was satisfactory I04 patients(68.4%), no change 35(23.1%), unsatisfactory 13(8.5%). Conclusions in generally, arthroscopic debridement to OA of the knee could release pain, improve function and improve score. The good satisfactory rate could be maintained in mid-long follow-up period. More than one evaluate method included subjective satisfactory may be helped to evaluate the results more objective.
