Antibodies against galactose 1,3 galactose (Gal) are the main mediators of the hyperacute and acute humoral xenograft rejection (AHXR) of pig organs transplanted in non-human primates.When these antibodies are continuously removed, or grafts from pigs knockout for the-1,3-galactosyltransferase gene are used, AHXR is caused by antibodies that target other antigens.The pattern anti-carbohydrate antibodies induced in non-human primates exposed to pig organs or red blood cells, under the continuous removal of anti-Gal antibodies, was investigated with glycoarrays.
