The circumscription between Tainia Bl. and Ania Lindl. has long been controversial. The phylogenetic position and relationship of these two genera was established and evaluated using nuclear ribosomal (ITS) and chloroplast(trnL-F) DNA sequence data in light of a re-assessment of morphological diversity, palynology and cytology.Molecular data and morphological studies show that Ania is clearly distinct from the members of Tainia, which is also supported by its comparatively unique and identifiable palynological features.
