  Epidemiological studies have consistently shown that regular consumption of fruits and vegetables is associated with reduced risk of developing cancer.Phytochemicals have been suggested to be responsible for their health benefits.We proposed that the benefit of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is attributed to the additive and synergistic interactions of the phytochemicals present in whole foods by targeting multiple signal transduction pathways.We have shown that whole fiuit phytochemical extracts exhibited potent antioxidant activity and anti-proliferative activity,as well as effectively inhibited mammary cancer growth in a rat model in a dose-dependent manner.
