Why do approval regimes and regulatory regimes of GMOs exhibit such diversity across key countries? Why have some countries chosen to impose strict mandatory labeling and tough regulations, while others have focused primarily on enhancing competitiveness and technological progress ?This presentation argues that pure economic arguments are insufficient to understand this diversity.Rather, the presentation emphasizes the importance of social and political mobilization in the context of institutional limitations.
