Because of the energy status in China,the coal liquefaction technology has become an effective way in utilization of coal,not only in the preparation of high calorific value fuels,but also can be used to obtain a variety of high-value chemicals.Our group has found that the liquefaction degree of Shenhua coal would be improved significantly by γ ray irradiation from a 60Co source and the gaseous products in coal samples after irradiation have been analyzed by gas chromatography.The results showed that after γ- irradiation,H2,CH4,C2H6,CO and other gases could be produced.As the irradiation dose was increased,the content of H2,CO increased as well; the content of alkanes would increase initially and then reduce,while it reached the maximum at 40kGy; the content of H2,CH4,C2H6,CO were significantly increased after irradiation with a small amount of water was added into the coal samples.For the Improvement of Shenhua coal liquefaction degree after irradiation,we can speculate that γ-irradiation would enhance the breakage of coal chemical bonds and produce smaller molecular weight groups,therefore it contributed to the process of coal liquefaction,and the added water generated numerous · OH radicals,which attack coal chemical bonds.We believe that the pretreatment of γ-radiation on coal sample would be an effective way to increase the coal liquefaction degree.
