Mechanically interlocked dendrimers (MIDs),1 in which the mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs) moieties, such as rotaxanes, catenanes, or knots, are introduced into the dendritic skeletons, have attracted considerable attention.The combination of the unique characteristic of both MIMs and dendrimers endows the resultant MIDs with appealing topologic structures as well as promising properties (Schem 1).
