A novel NPs-film coupling system is demonstrated by introducing monolayer graphene as well-defined sub-nanospacer between Ag NPs and Ag film. Our results show that the system offers tremendous near-field enhancement with one of the highest enhancement ratio reported to date in the graphene-metal plasmonic combination system. The strong near-field enhancement is beneficial to trap more light in the graphene hybrid solar cells.By replacing the metal film with n-type silicon film in the metal NPs-metal film system, we find a plasmonic-enhanced graphene-silicon hybrid solar cells is obtained. Thanks to strong light trapping, the power conversion efficiency enhances by 25% as compared to the control device. Our results suggest a new approach to achieve higher enhancement in graphene-silicon solar cells.
