TNM staging classification is the gold standard used to identify tumor Stage, direct treatment options, and determine the prognosis and efficacy of treatments. In October2009, the 7th UICC/AJCC TNM staging system released a significant change in the TNM staging system of bile duct tumors.Comparisons between the 6th and 7th editions of the AJCC/UICC staging system helped standardize the surgical treatment ofbiliary tract tumor.Extrahepatic bile duct tumors have been classified into perihilar (proximal) and distal groups according to separate staging classifications defined for T1 (confined to the bile duct) and T2 (beyond the wall of the bile duct) specified histologically. We recommend that two site-specific prognostic factors, preoperative or pretreatment of serum carcinoembryonic antigen and CA19.9, should be obtained.Perihilar Bile Ducts T2is manifested as an invasion of the adjacent hepatic parenchyma.
