Hot isostatic pressing (HIPing) is an advanced powder metallurgy processing technology, and it has been widely used in powder metallurgy industry because it can produce powder compacts with full density and high performance. In this study, an analysis model was established based on Shima model and FEM analysis using commercial FEM software MSC.MARC was conducted to predict the non-uniform densification and final dimensions under hot isostatic pressing. The demo parts were prepared with gas atomized Ti-6Al-4V (wt.%) and Ti-22Al-24Nb-0.5Mo (at.%) powders. It indicated that the FEM prediction is in good agreement with the experimental data.FEM analysis is useful to exploit the HIPing processing window for Ti-based powders and it is also an efficient tool for the design and manufacture of powder components with large thin-wall or complex structure.
