Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular tumor in adults.Despite the advances in diagnosis and treatment of this tumor through the last decades, the mortality rates did not improved considerably.Today about 30% of the tumors will metastasize and lead to death. This data leads to research of this interesting tumor.Animal models are very popular among researchers. The Henry C Witelson Ocular Pahtology Laboratory, McGill University, Montreal, has a established animal model ofuveal melanoma (Blanco et al, 2005).In this model we can study pathways of metastatic development, new potential therapeutic targets, presence of circulating malignant cells.Tumor genetic alterations can also be studied.Current technologies for studying tumor genomes has lead to development or new antitargets drugs that has improved the chemotherapy arsenal. At our point of view this is the future for Uveal Melanoma treatment.
