Antimony(Sb)and its compounds are considered as global pollutants due to their health risks and long-range transport characteristics.Although antimony does not belong to the major conventional criterion air pollutants at present, atmospheric concentrations of antimony at some large cities in the world have been seriously overweighed. To date,Antimony and its compounds have aroused a wide concern of the public and they have been listed into priority pollutants by the US Environment Protection Agency(USEPA)and the European Union(EU).To obtain a better understanding of the current status of antimony emissions and the sources distribution characteristics throughout the world,a comprehensive global inventory of atmospheric antimony emissions from anthropogenic activities for the year 2010 has been developed based on the relevant data availability for different continents and countries in this study.Fuel combustion is the major emission source category,Asia accounts for more than half of the global total antimony emissions and China, the United States and Japan rank as the top three emitting countries.Global antimony emissions are distributed into gridded cells with a resolution of 1?×1? Regions with high Sb emissions are generally concentrated in the Southeastern Asia and Western Europe while South Africa, economically developed regions of the Eastern USA,and the Mexico are also responsible for the high antimony emission intensity. In view of the high antimony emission intensity and much more detailed information are available in China,2496 large point sources are figured and Chinese antimony emissions are distributed with a much higher gridded resolution of 0.5?×0.5? by combining point sources and area sources together. There are obvious regional distribution characteristics in antimony emissions of China, high antimony emissions mainly occur in densely populated and industrialized regions of Mid-eastern and Southwestern China.
