European Union (EU) aquaculture has a role just like that of fishery providing the market with fish and shellfish and moderating the equilibration between imports and exports of fishery products.Consumers, benefit from product variety which are added to those from fishery and according to recent data aquaculture in the EU27 produce each year in total over 1.3 million tones of fishery products which means approximately over 3 billion euros There is also long tradition in Europe in fish and shellfish farming which means that it is very easy to explain the EU aquaculture diversity which includes small and big industrial and international enterprises.The European Union is the world s biggest importer of fish, seafood and aquaculture products with harmonised import rules in all EU member states.
