@@ The brain is intrinsically more vulnerable to ischemia than any other organ. For example, while 20 to 40 mins of ischemia is needed to cause ischemic injury to heart and kidney, while a few minutes of cerebral ischemia is sufficient to generate significant damage to brain. So when something unhopeful happens to the brain, the results are really bad. Stroke is the third major cause of death in the major industrialized countries after cardiovascular disease and cancer. The large majority (85％) of strokes in the western world are ischemic, the other strokes are hemorrhagic. These figures differ in China where stroke is the first cause of death and hemorrhagic strokes are more common. As stroke is a major cause of both death and dysfuction, it do cause serious harm to human health , so neuroprotection after stroke is imperative.
