Understanding intracellular signaling mechanisms underlying protective response against ischemia is one of major steps in the development of effective drugs for ischemic diseases.Recently, we have demonstrated using endothelium-specific Grb-2-associated binder 1 (Gab1) knockout mice that Gab1 is a critical signal transducer in the promotion of ischemic and VEGF-induced angiogenesis in hindlimb ischemia.
