Particles breakage plays an important role in the macro mechanical behavior of granular materials. In this study an elastoplastic model combined with an experiential crushing equation is suggested for crushable granular materials based on t he Cosserat continuum theory.Hardins definition of the relative breakage, which is used to quantify the extent of crushing, can be obtained from the crushing equation according to the normal crushing stress. And the relative breakage is considered as a correction factor, which affects the stresses and the evolution of the internal length scale of the Cosserat continuum theory. The influences of particle crushing on the bearing capacity and localization of the plastic strain are analyzed in numerical simulations. The results illustrate that particles breakage mainly occurs in shear bands and shear bands obviously become narrow, while the equivalent plastic strain gradient increases in case of considering crushing.
