Background: Robotic surgeries of the upper urinary track and adrenal gland can be performed via transperitoneal and retroperitoneal approach.Retroperitoneal access is generally avoided due to limited working space and higher risk of collision between robotic arms.In this article, we described our technique and experience in robotic surgeries of the upper urinary track and adrenal gland via retroperitoneal approach.Methods: 60 robotic urologic surgeries performed by retroperitoneal approach between December 2014 and July 2015 were reviewed,including 28 kidney surgeries (total and partial) and 33 adrenalectomies (one patient had both radical nephrectomy and adrenalectomy).For all cases, obtuse triangle (120-140°) trocar configuration was used, and the robotic cart was positioned at the patients head.Results: No arm collision was encountered for all 60 cases.
