As there is an increasing social concern for preserving clean air,the control of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) in atmosphere is very important.Among the HAPs,Hg has hardly toxicity and has been enriched in an organism even if extremely small quantities of Hg are released from nonpoint or point sources [1].The Hg in flue gas was classified to two types of Hg which are an elemental Hg (Hg0) and an oxidized Hg (Hg +2) [2].The Hg+2 such as HgC12 and HgO is easily removed from flue gas by wet scrubber, whereas elemental Hg0 is hardly captured through the conventional flue gas treatments [1].Therefore,the studies on the Hg0 capturing and the analysis of traces of Hg0 are significant matter and will be progressed.Generally, various dry adsorbent usually used to capture Hg0.In this study, the adsorption and desorption for trace of Hg in air were studied on various dry adsorbents; activated carbon series, alumina series, silica gel series. The adsorption of Hg0 was carried out under air (18 ng Hg0/min) flow rate of 300 cm3/min.at room temperature for I h.and the desorption of rHg0 were characterized using TPD method at R.T.~ 600 ℃ (5% H2/He atmosphere).Hg concentration was analyzed by the Zeeman cold vapor-atomicabsorption (Zeeman-CVAA) spectroscopy method. The efficiency of Hg0 adsorption was varied with contaminates in absorbents.
