Growth inhibition of cyanobacteria and its toxins elimination by Triarrherca sacchariflora(Maxin.)Na

  Frequent outbreaks of cyanobacteria from eutrophication,resulted in cyanobacterial toxins pollution,has become a serious environmental disaster.In this research,an emergent macrophyte widely found in fresh water around China,named Triarrherca sacchariflora(Maxin.)Nakai,was observed and experimented,concretely,its roots,stems and leaves,at the inhibition of its immersion liquid and planting water on the growth of toxic Microcystis aeruginosa and the natural algal assemblage of Chaohu Lake; and the inhibition of Triarrherca sacchariflora(Maxin.)Nakai on different densities Microcystis aeruginosa also was studied when cultivated together; the research was extended to the absorption of Triarrherca sacchariflora(Maxin.)Nakai and its roots and leaves to microcystins MC-LR.It has been proved that:(1)the immersion liquid and its planting water can inhibit the growth of both Microcystis aeruginosa and the natural algal assemblage in Chaohu Lake at different levels;(2)The inhibition effect of Triarrherca sacchariflora(Maxin.)Nakai on low density Microcystis aeruginosa was better than the high density group when cultivated together;(3)Triarrherca sacchariflora(Maxin.)Nakai has absorption effect on MC-LR,and the degree of its absorption rises up with the increase of its amount,Triarrherca sacchariflora(Maxin.)Nakai roots and leaves also have a degradation effect on MC-LR in slight amount.It is strongly suggested that Triarrherca sacchariflora(Maxin.)Nakai be planted in margins of lakes or reservoirs to inhibit the growth of cyanobacterial and absorb its toxins.
