  Based on their physiological characteristics, such as pH, temperature, and ability to use ferrous iron as energy source, mesophilic iron oxidizing bacteria have been isolated from a heap leaching plant in Chambishi Copper Mine,Zambia.The "overlay technique" was implemented by replacing acidiphilium species with a yeast species we isolated from the same sample, and identified as belonging to candida digboiensis sp.
