Upconversion luminescence (UCL) is a unique process whereby continuous-wave (CW) low-energy light is converted into higher-energy light through sequential multiple photon absorption or energy transfer.Nowadays, lanthaide-based phosphors and small molecules with triplet-triplet annihilation can show UCL emission under CW excitation at low-energy lighg.In particular, under excitation at near-infraredd (NIR) radiation at 980 nm, lanthanide-based phosphors codoped with the sensitizer of Yb3+ and the activator of Er3+, Tm3+, or Ho3+ become popular to show UCL emission.
