HPLC plays an important role in modern life, covering research, everyday inspection, industry, etc..With the development of the society, fast analysis is demanding.One of the challenges in HPLC is how to enhance mass transport efficiency.The key to it is to develop the desired stationary phase material, which has suitable properties.Perfusive polymeric materials were put forward to afford fast mass transfer; however, polymer has its own defects of low mechanical strength, week resistance to organic solvent and temperature.Furthermore, monolithic materials were proposed as the stationary phase of HPLC for fast separation; its limitation lies in the difficulty of fabrication, packing, etc.In a long time, such development is retarded.In our continuous effort, perfusive silica microspheres were put forward.They were formed by the synergetic interaction of sol-gel transition and phase separation in confined emulsion droplets.After suitable post-treatment, such as calcination at high temperature, silica microspheres with high mechanical strength were obtained.
