  Objectives:To clinically validate feasibility,safety and value of the C1 lateral mass screw C2 pedicle screw with crosslink compression fixation technique in the treatment of unstable atlas fracture.Materials and Methods:From Jan 2001 to Dec 2004,17 cases of atlas fracture were diagnosed consecutively,of which 14 cases were unstable atlas fractures.Of the 14 cases,11 cases were operated on with C1 lateral mass and C2 pedicle screws with crosslink compression fixation,of whom 6 patents had axial instability and rotation instability,one patient had C2 laminal fracture,and the remaining 4 patients had axial instability.
