It is widely recognized that exhaust power and particle handling by plasma-facing components is a critical issue for the successful operation of a steady state magnetic fusion power reactor.Although it is envisaged to be used as the divertor target material in ITER,tungsten is unlikely to survive the conditions that are predicted for DEMO reactors. As a possible resolution for this situation, the use of liquid metals such as lithium, gallium and tin, have been proposed over the past two decades.Recently, the possibility of enhancing the interaction between the liquid metal in a pool with the divertor plasma by active JxB force convection was proposed.
