Development of a Droplet Microfluidic Based Multidimensional Analysis System

　　Proteomics demands separation strategies with very high resolution.Over the past twenty years or so, various multidimensional separation methodologies combining different separation modes have been developed to fulfill this request.As the core part of any multidimensional platforms, interface technology plays an important role in securing sufficient fractionation and efficient sample transfer between dimensions.Droplet microfluidics have series of unique advantages for fluid manipulation, including small volume, low dispersion and none cross-contaminating.These features make it an ideal interfacing technology for sample handling between different separation stages in a multidimensional system.In this study, we used "fragmentation" and "merging" chips to convert continuous effluent flow into discontinuous droplets following the 1 st dimension, then back to continuous bulk flow in the 2nd dimension to further separate the fractionated analytes.
