We present the verification of Coulomb potential effect on the terahertz emission from atoms and molecules in a strong two-color field.We measured simultaneously the terahertz and high harmonic emission as the phase delay between the fundamental and its second harmonic was varied The optimal phase delay was determined using the inherent attochirp of the high harmonics.The deviation of this optimal phase from the semiclassical treatment, in which only the interaction of the free electron with the laser field is considered,demonstrates that the rescattering process also plays the key role for terahertz generation.We find that the optimal phase of the terahertz generation is robust against many parameters, such as laser intensity, intensity ratio between fundamental and second-harmonic laser,gaseous species, and be used to measure the relative phase of a two-color field in situ in the tunneling ionization region.
