This lecture will focus on the emerging roles of TRPM7 and TRPM2 channels in governing ischemic cell damage, and on the development of genetic and pharmacological means to ameliorate the capacity of mammalian cells to survive ischemic insults in-vitro and in-vivo.Brief Introduction: Dr.Michael Tymianski is a Clinician-Scientist at the University of Toronto, where he practices cerebrovascular neurosurgery. He is a Canada Research Chair in Translational Stroke Research, a Professor in the Dept of Surgery, University of Toronto, a Senior Scientist at the Toronto Western Hospital Research Institute, and the Director of the Neurovascular Therapeutics Program at the University Health Network.Dr.Tymianskis research interest focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cell ischemia, particularly in the nervous system. His laboratory is currently focused on the roles of TRP channels and of postsynaptic density proteins in ischemic cell damage.
