Electrodeposition of Pb on polycrystalline Cu substrate was investigated by means of cyclicvoltammetry(CV)and in situ spectroscopic ellipsometry(SE).The kinetics of underpotential-deposited(UPD)of Pb on polycrytalline Cu was a quasi-reversible two dimensional nucleation and growth processwhich was proposed according to SE and CV measurements. The substrate–solution interface structure wasdescribed with an effective medium approximation(EMA)model, and the volume fraction of Pb and solutionwere fitted.Fitting results showed that double layer charge and hydrogen reduction reaction can not beignored. The current efficiency reached the maximum when polarization potential equaled to -350 mV.
