Micro-droplet deposition manufacture is a novel direct metal rapid prototyping manufacture for miniaturized parts.The size and shape of the droplet are the key points for improving the surface finish and microstructure of part.Relationship between accurate droplet and operating parameters including frequency,pressure and temperature at optimal condition was investigated.Droplet generator was designed to produce micro-droplet.A vibration system was developed to generate perturbation,which controlled jet breakup and droplet forming.Basing on the relationship between gas pressure and nozzle velocity,the gas pressure control system was design to regulate the velocity of capillary jet.Temperature control system melted the forming material.In order to control the process of droplet generation,real-time monitor software was developed with G language of labview.Experiments at different conditions have been conducted.Spherical and accurate water micro-droplets were generated by a nozzle diameter of 150 μm.Tin alloy droplets were produced with nozzle diameter of 240 μm at argon environment.Research shows that the droplet generation system can produce accurate micro-droplets which meet the requirements of fabricating miniaturized parts.
