The gastric pathogen Helicobacter pylori is the subject of an intense debate on its co-evolution with the human host.The cause of this mystery can be known if we decipher evolutionary biology of the pathogen as juxtaposed to the biology of the host.Using a plethora of bacterial isolates from across the world,we are nurturing the concept ofGeographic genomics to address such intertwined issues.Integrated genotyping approaches were used for 376 H.pylori isolates originating from 8 geographic regions including India,Japan,England,Ireland,Spain,Bangladesh,Costa Rica and South America.Florescent amplified fragment length polymorphism (FAFLP) analysis revealed distinct amplitypes indicating geographic partitioning of the genome.
