Produced with special environment conditions, weathered coal has low thermal efficiency and covers large proportion of coal industrial solid wastes, weathered coal resources are distributed in the most provinces of China. However,it is full of regenerated humic acids, which is alkali soluble and having high content of carboxyl group and a low of phenolic hydroxyl group comparing with extracted from peat and brown coal. The aim of this paper is to investigate the infection of weathered coal on mining area soil restoration with different freezing-thawing cycles and water content,in view of the climate of the open-cast mine.So that best practice can be identified and used to guide future efforts. The effect of freezing-thawing and water content on weathered coal ameliorating soil properties was determined, different water content for various freezing-thawing cycles (one, three and five times). Results shown mining area soil properties was efficiently improved by weathered coal, and effect of freezing-thawing cycles and water content on soil physical and chemical properties are generally significant different (p =0.05).But the change of freezing-thawing cycle times is no significance with most soil properties. And the most effective restoration water content was 15% in this research.
