TiO2 is the most widely used photocatalysts far effective decomposition of organic compounds in air and water, due to its relatively high photocatalytic activity, biological and chemical stability, low cost, non-toxic nature, and long-term stability. However, it is active only in the ultraviolet (UV) region because of its wide band gap (3.2 eV for anatase), which accounts for less than 5% of solar energy.
