The excitation of atomic clusters,a concept that has demonstrated the efficient[≥20%]generation of Xe(M) x-rays at λx~l.2 nm and amplification on Xe(L) hollow atom transitions at ~ 0.28 nm through nonlinear coupling to intense radiative fields at 248 nm,admits the introduction of a critical cluster mass that is defined by the minimum number of atoms nc in a cluster that enables all atoms in the system to undergo inner-shell excitation.
