The SiO2 aerogel with density as 30 kg/m3 and 100 kg/m3 were prepared separately utilizing two-step and one-step sol-gel technique methods from tetraethoxysilane(TEOS).The porous morphology and structure of the aerogel were characterized by SEM, Nitrogen adsorption and weight weighing after heating at 100℃, 200 ℃,300℃, 400℃, 500℃, 600℃, 700℃, 800℃, 900℃and 1000℃.The results were demonstrated that low density aerogel could keep the intact microstructure when the temperature was below 400℃.In the range of 400℃ and 800 ℃, the surface area decreased slowly as the high-density aerogel.The nanostructures were contracted and collapsed rapidly when the temperature was exceed 800 ℃.The conclusion was that although the aerogel with density as 30kg/m3 possessed thinner structure and higher surface activity, it had the same structure evolution trend and application temperature of 800℃ as the high density aerogel.
