The interest in microchip capillary electrophoresis (μ-CE) with electrochemical detection (ECD) has increased considerably because ECD offers perfect features for μ-CE include remarkable sensitivity, inherent miniaturization and portability, low cost, low-power requirements and high compatibility with microfabrication technologies.This review focuses on recent advances in integrating electrochemical detection, especially amperometric detection, with μ-CE.Effects of the separation electric field, the developments on the strategies of isolation and non-isolation detection modes from separation electric field are discussed in detail.It is expected that μ-CE-ECD will become a powerful tool for clinical diagnostics, environmental monitoring and biological assays.
