Many physical phenomena develop singular or nearly singular behavior in localized regions, e.g., boundary layers or blowup solutions.Using uniform grids for the numer ical solution of these problems require extremely fine grids for accurately resolving the solution in those small regions.Hence, the use of uniform grids becomes computationally prohibitive as the solution approaches singularity.
