赤星病是烟草属最重要的真菌性病害，它是由营腐生性生活的病原真菌链格孢菌(Alternaria alternata tobacco pathotype或赤星病菌)致病产生。该病原菌主要通过叶片的气孔侵入。当植物感受到该真菌的入侵后，可以通过激活茉莉酸信号在真菌侵入部位大量的诱导抗菌的香豆素类化合物Scopoletin来抵御病原菌的入侵。
