The East Lake is the representative brownfield transformation as a quarry in the late Qing Dynasty in China.This paper introduces its evolution and specially its connection with traditional Chinese landscape paintings and gardens which are the basis of the creation of the site.The current space system is analyzed in details by on-site survey with consideration of dimensions and scales.The picture-scroll narrative of the lake is much examined in such areas, far-distance viewing on the outline, near-object exploration on the details and internal seeking among the hill-water by providing progressive tour paths.The landscape transformation of it fully embodies the Chinese garden charm and creates a feeling of exchange between insubstantiality and substantiality.Overall, the success of the transformation is to deal with residual landscape by respecting the current situations, protecting the rocks and inputting program for the outstanding scenery combination.
