Classical age-structured mass-action models e.g.,the McKendrick-von Foerster equation)have been widely studied andapplied but cannot describe stochastic fluctuations orpopulation-size-dependent birth and death rates.Stochastic theoriesthat treat semi-Markov age-dependent processes using e.g.,the Bellman-Harris equation do not resolve a populationsage-structure and are unable to quantify population-sizedependencies.
