Although plastid-to-nucleus signaling is a well-known phenomenon, the factors involved in this retrograde communication are exclusive.Plant senescence is a highly regulated nuclear events requiring altered activity of numerous transcription factors from a variety of families such as NAC, MYB and WRKY.WRKY53 was identified as a central regulator in the transcription factor signaling network that activates the expression of many downstream senescence-associated genes.
