Natural rubber,an important industrial raw material,is specially synthesized in the highly differentiated laticifer cells located inside the rubber tree trunk.Due to be devoid of plasmodesmata,the water balance of laticifers is mediated by aquaporins(AQPs).Although a great deal has been known about AQPs in several plants,little information is available in Hevea brasiliensis.In this study,51 full-length AQP genes were identified in the rubber tree genome via a bioinformatic homology search.
