Prostate cancer is the common cancer affecting men and has a high tendency to metastasize making it a very difficult to treat if not early detected.The survival and growth of prostate cancer cells are initially dependent on androgens, and virtually all prostate cancer patients respond when first treated with androgen ablation.However, resistance to hormone blockade ultimately results in the recurrence of highly aggressive and metastatic prostate cancer that is androgen independent.Androgen receptor (AR) controls the expression of genes involved in cell proliferation, migration, differentiation, and cell death.Regulation of its function involves cross-talk with the other signaling pathways, transcription factors and coregulatory proteins such as e.g.β-catenin.The latter one plays a critical role in tumorigenesis through its link to E-cadherin-mediated cell adhesion and Wnt-delpendent signal transduction.
