To understand biology at system level, examining the structure and dynamic changes under different status can gain more insights than characterizing isolated pathways of cells or organisms.Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a disease involved multiple organ and system disorders, is still attractive to many researchers and leaves much enigma to be cracked.In this study, we demonstrated the application of the combined genomics and metabonomics strategy to explore the major metabolic traits of RA patients.Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated from normal controls and the patients.mRNA expression analysis showed 147 differentially expressed genes nearly involved in all biological processes after retrieved through KEGG, Biocarta, SwissPort and Gene Ontology: Biological Processes databases.Sera samples were then subjected to metabonomics assay utilizing ultra performance liquid chromatography-time of flight mass spectrometry.
