Regulation of ECF sigma factor degradation for cell differentiation in Streptomyces coelicolor

Little is understood about intrinsic regulatory mechanism of protein degradation of ECF sigma factors for bacterial cell development and environmental adaptation.Here we reported that in Streptomyces coelicolor, protein stability of an ECF sigma factor SigT, a negative regulator of cell differentiation, completely depended on cognateanti-sigma factor RstA, whosedegradation caused SigT degradation through CIpP/SsrA pathway during cell differentiation, which was consistent with the delayed morphological development or secondary metabolism in, AclpP background after rstA deletion or sigT overexpression.
