Aim Esophageal stricture frequently occurs after endoscopic submucosal dissection with a mucosal defect involving more than three-quarters of the circumference. We investigated the efficacy and safety of oral prednisone to prevent post-endoscopic submucosal dissection stricture. Methods We conducted a retrospective study on 11 consecutive patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma treated by endoscopic submucosal dissection, who had a more than three-quarter or a circumferential defect.Oral prednisolone was started at 30 mg/day on the third day post-endoscopic submucosal dissection, tapered gradually.
