Allo-Ge, a rarely investigated Ge allotrope, can be obtained using various aromatic hydrocarbons (AHC) in protic solvent tetrahydrofurane (THF) to oxidize Li7Ge12, and the oxidation potential of Li7Ge12 was determined to be around-2.27 V.Until now, there is no report on allo-Ges physical or chemical properties even though Ge has many industrial applications.Ge material is one of the most studied anode materials for lithium ion batteries.Allo-Ge features pseudo-layered structure character,when compared with layered structure graphite·a typical anode material, it deserves to be investigated its electrochemical performances.The attempts to get nano-allo-Ge or exfoliated thin plate-like allo-Ge failed, and pristine mirco-allo-Ge was employed and tested as the anode active materials.Its electrochemical data were compared to those of alpha-Ge.The computational result indicates its a direct semiconductor with the energy gap of 0.478 eV.
